JAY SAWYER LOST & FOUND
Please click images above for full view.
Jay Sawyer is a native Mainer. A self-employed welder, he is the owner of Sawyer's Welding & Mobile Repair. He recently began making sculpture from scraps left over from construction sites and welding jobs after he was encouraged by a client who saw the spark of creative potential in the everyday ironwork Jay Sawyer does for a living.
Sawyer resides in Warren, Maine where his property is dotted with a growing collection of rusting metal sculpture. Some pieces are created by him, others are left as they were found. With his knowledge of metal, Sawyer not only sees the design elements in a piece of twisted iron, he can explain the flaw in the material that caused it to malfunction in the first place and give a date for the material, after which manufacturing was changed to avoid the flaw. He has been exhibiting in rural Maine since 2006. This is his first exhibit at June Fitzpatrick Gallery. Sawyer graduated in 1983 with a degree in Marine Engineering from Maine Maritime Academy.
