Jeff Woodbury is an artist living and working in South Portland, Maine. He holds an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and a BFA in Intermedia from Arizona State University in Tempe. An interdisciplinary artist, Woodbury has exhibited photographs, drawings, dissected maps, prints and video works in the past two years. In 200,8 he was included in the Biennial at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport and was a guest lecturer at the State University of New York in New Paltz. Some of his map works will be included in an upcoming book titled CARTOGRAPHY: Artists + Maps, to be published by Princeton Architectural Press.

I call a lot of my work "drawing" because it's a simple handle for carrying it around, and broad enough to cover a great deal of what I do. I explore my fascination with the world through drawing.

I draw with pencils and pens and knives, with rocks and bleach and fire, with light and sound and motion, on paper and film and computers and in the world. I work both analog and digital. I can draw with both hands at the same time.

I work concurrently on projects in a variety of media. Some projects take longer than others; some are explorations with no outcome intended. Very often they evolve into other projects. Sometimes a project is set down for years, then picked up again and turned around and tested in a new position in the overall pattern of my work. The holes left by abandoned ideas are part of the pattern, too.
