Internationally acclaimed in the art world Leonard Baskin is acknowledged as one of the foremost American figurative artists of the 20th century. His work has been exhibited in solo shows at significant museums and galleries throughout the world and is included in the permanent collections of many of the world's important institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian in the this country, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum in London and the Vatican Museum in Rome.
It is generally thought that Baskin's early work is among the best he ever produced so it is especially rewarding that this exhibit at Fitzpatrick, represents selected works from the 1950s and 60s. The exhibit includes more than one hundred of the scarcer prints, mostly woodcuts and wood engravings.
